The application of micronized waxes in can coatings is mainly used as an additive to improve the surface properties, processability and durability of the coating. The following are its specific roles:

1. Main functions

Lubrication and abrasion resistance: micronized wax added to the coating can reduce the coefficient of friction, enhance the abrasion resistance of the can body in the process of high-speed stamping and molding, and prevent the coating from breaking.

Anti-adhesion: prevent the coating surface from sticking when the tanks are stacked or transported, especially under high temperature and high humidity environment.

Surface smoothness: Improve coating leveling, reduce surface defects (e.g. orange peel, pinholes), enhance printing or appearance quality.

Chemical resistance: Some waxes (e.g. PTFE wax) enhance the coating's resistance to contents (acidic beverages, alcohol, etc.).

2. Advantages and challenges

Advantages: low cost, low dosage but significant effect.

Enhance production efficiency (reduce equipment wear and tear, lower scrap rate).

Challenges: Particle size and dispersion need to be strictly controlled to avoid affecting coating adhesion or appearance.

Food safety approvals (e.g. migration tests) are required.

3. Common Wax Types

Polyethylene wax: cost-effective and versatile.

PTFE waxes: temperature resistant, chemically inert, suitable for high performance requirements.

Amide waxes: enhanced slip, but compatibility with resins is important.
